日中も日が差さず、寒さが厳しい日々が続いています。昨日は雪もちらつきました。そんな季節にぴったりの軸、『萬里寒光 生積雪』を掛けました。これは祖詠という中国の詩人が読んだ七言律詩の一部で「寒々とした光景が積雪によって生じている」という意味。薄墨を使って、寒々としたさまを表現していて義母の書の中でも好きなものです。
In the third week of December, we practiced daitenmoku, one of the Shikaden procedures. We have had cold days recently, and yesterday for the first time this winter, we even had snow. In the alcove, I hung the appropriate calligraphy scroll for the current weather.

A Chinese poet, Zu Yong, wrote this seven-character verse, one of my favorites among many in my mother-in-law’s collection. Her faint brushstrokes with thin ink beautifully expressed the bleakness of the snowfield.
さて、台天目は天目台に天目茶碗を載せ、常のように茶巾、茶筅を仕込み、象牙の茶杓を載せます。楽茶碗のように比較的冷めにくいものと違い天目茶碗はすぐに中のお湯が冷めてしまいますので、茶筅通しの前に二回湯を注ぎ、2回目のお湯の中に茶筅を入れた後、風炉点前の風炉の火窓の位置に置いておくというのも、この間に、真にたたんだ袱紗でお台を拭くというのも納得の所作です。この点前では、主役である天目茶碗と天目台について尋ねるタイミングはお茶を頂く際、茶碗を縁内に取りこんで連客が総礼した後に、正客が亭主に尋ねます。
