10月1日は十五夜でしたね。大きなまん丸のお月様がススキの穂を照らしてとてもきれいでした。十五夜に因んで、久しぶりに茶箱の月点前・拝見ありのお稽古しました。掛物は『日日是好日』、花は『秋明菊』です。
The light from the full moon on October 1st, reflecting on the Japanese pampas grass, was beautiful. Celebrating this fall season, we practiced chabako tsukidemae (chabako box, the moon procedure). We hung the calligraphy nichinichi kore kojitu (“Every day is a good day”) and placed Japanese anemone flowers in the alcove.
月点前は、十一世玄々斎創案の秋の点前です。他の茶箱点前では使用しない、器据え、ウグイス、香合、小さい火箸を使います。お箱の中からすべてのお道具が箱の蓋と器据えの上に出されると、小羽根の雲の下にまあるい香合の月が出て何とも雅な趣になります。
Tsukidemae, appropriate for the season of crisp air and the beautiful moon, was introduced by Gengensai, eleventh- generation head of Urasenke School. Special tools are used for this procedure: kizue (four folding wooden boards), uguisu (a u-pin to stabilize chasen on the board), kogo (an incense holder), and hibashi (small metal chopsticks to hold the incense).When looking at the tools displayed, the incense holder looks like the moon and the feather like the cloud looking on the tea bowl—an elegant procedure.
お道具の拝見も含めるととても長いお点前になりますが、それも秋の静けさを味わえて特別なひと時となります。このお点前はとても複雑そうに感じますが、実はちゃんと無駄のない流れがあり、合理的なお点前だなあと感心させられます。
Even though it’s a long procedure—especially with viewing the tools—we enjoyed the quiet moment with its calm autumn feeling.
