小習い十六か条の内、貴人点の風炉点前をそれぞれのレベルに合わせて、濃茶、薄茶でお稽古しました。今日のお菓子は生徒さんが、シカゴからお土産に持ち帰ってくださった日本の桜餅です。貴人点前をする亭主役、お茶をいただく貴人役、給仕をする半東役のお稽古をそれぞれが担って、順繰りにお稽古です。
Kinin date is one of the 16 basic procedures of the tea ceremony. In the third week of June, depending of the level of the students, we practiced the kinindate with both thin tea and thick tea. During this practice, each student took turns and switched roles of a host, kinin (nobleman), and hanto (host’s assistant).
貴人台を持ち出して点前座に進むとき、右手の小指を折って台のほおづきに当て残りの指で台の上の茶碗を持つ、台の扱い方など、初めての作法で小指を曲げると茶碗を持つ指がばらばらになって戸惑っている生徒さんもいました。繰り返しのお稽古で美しい所作が身についてくるのだとつくづく思います。
For some students, holding and handling chawan with kinin dai (wooden tea bowl stand) seems challenging; especially holding the bowl and its stand with both hands, bending the right pinky finger inward while the other four fingers support the bowl.
