From November, it is the season for the ro hearth. In the third and fourth weeks of October, I hurriedly practiced the procedure of the furo charcoal. We used practice charcoal for the lessons. There were students struggling with the chopsticks, while others skillfully used the fire chopsticks to place the charcoal. After placing the charcoal, we cut the ash in the shape of a half moon in front of the earthenware. In the gozumi charcoal procedure, this half moon shape is filled with wisteria ash. This creates a white half-moon shape that floats up, and everyone was moved by its beauty. Additionally, in the gozumi charcoal procedure, when a wet tea cloth is used to write the character ‘二’ (ni) on the back of the kettle’s body and ‘つ’ (tsu) in front, the marks gracefully vanish as they evaporate, leaving a delicate and elegant impression. This experience of such aesthetics makes me appreciate the profound charm of the tea ceremony.
